Actor Ivan Trojan will receive the Karlovy Vary Festival President’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Cinematography at this year’s 58th edition. Jiří Bartoška, the president of the event, announced this on Tuesday. One of the most successful Czech film, television and theater actors will receive the crystal globe at its conclusion. Trojan will celebrate its 60th birthday on June 30. The festival starts two days earlier and lasts until July 6.
On this occasion, the show will present the 2008 film Karamazov, in which Trojan played the lead role. As part of the accompanying program, the Karlovy Vary City Theater will also host an extraordinary performance of the monodrama Frogs, which was written and directed by his court author Petr Zelenka for Trojan’s 1960s.
The novel had its premiere last week in the Dejvické theater. It tells the story of a prop maker who discovers that he has a stronger relationship with things than with people. Trojan had to learn 35 pages of text for her. “I have to do a little bit of work to keep myself in some attention and to still have some goals,” he said on that account.
For the title role in the drama Oblomov, Ivan Trojan won the Thália Award in 2000, the Alfréd Radok Award for his role in the Dejvický dyadál’s production Clogged System in 2012, and the Theater Critics Award 2022 for his role in Petr Zelenka’s play Fifty. He is a seven-time recipient of the Czech Lion.
“Ivan Trojan is a friend of mine, so some might think that there is some kind of patronage involved. But he is not only one of the best-paid Czech film and theater actors, he is the holder of seven Czech Lions and four nominations. He also has one for the film Karamazov, ” explained Bartošek’s award.
At the end of last year, Ivan Trojan fulfilled his childhood dream when he played in the Opava jersey against Písek in the top basketball competition.
