Martina Arnoletti in Ciampi she was born in Ivrea on 17 September 1989, under the sign of Virgo, exactly like her husband Matteo, born in 1982, who was born in Castellamonte. The Vezzosa Mugnaia 2024, professional assistant in a dental practice, has always lived and breathed Carnival, all year round, thanks to a family totally immersed in our celebration. His father Paolo, born in 1961, in 1984 founded with some friends the “La County of Montenavale” float, team number 29, which this year celebrates its 40th anniversary. Paolo, a charismatic and very active figure in the neighborhood overlooking the hill behind Via Jervis, is also President of the new Fagiolata di Montenavale (first founded in 1862), which Mugnaia’s maternal grandfather helped to re-found after the War in 1948. It is no coincidence that the first images of Martina at Carnival show her helping her mother Viviana, her aunts and cousins among the steaming pots of her beloved beans. Her passion for battle, strictly on her chariot, will soon lead her to abandon the bean coats and wear padding and a mask.

In fact, since the age of 17, she has been a permanent presence on the shores of the County of Montenavale, thanks to which she met her husband Matteo Ciampi. Also from Montenavale, Matteo bears a surname that does not hide the Tuscan origins of the family. An entrepreneur in new technologies, he is co-founder of Allo Energy, a start-up that monitors the energy consumption of homes to optimize the energy savings of devices and appliances. It was Martina’s cousin, Lorenzo, who in 2015 invited Toniotto, until then Tuchino and “piazzaiolo”, as he likes to define himself, to be part of that bandwagon which he has never abandoned since then and which immediately led him to meet the smile bewitching of the beautiful Martina. Love blossomed immediately and the two children soon followed: Alice (2018), who you will find in the days of the procession on Toniotto’s float, cultivates the dream of becoming Abbà, and the little one of the house, Tommaso, born in May 2022. married in 2021, after two postponements due to the pandemic. The honeymoon in Puglia, and subsequently the discovery of Thailand, contributed to fueling the interest in travel which, together with photography and pilates, are the passions of the new Vezzosa.

In the days preceding the Saturday evening appearance, Martina did not stop thinking about that moment for a single second. “I can’t wait to feel the warmth of the crowd and feel the connection and exchange of energy with everyone. I know it will be an intense moment. The days that preceded the presentation were a blender of emotions: tension, serenity, anxiety, excitement…Matteo and I would not have been able to face them without the precious and hidden help of all those who accompanied us on this journey, from Millers Elena Trotto Gatta, Elisa Gusta and Francesca Vanoni, to my assistant, up to the seamstress, the hairdresser and the make-up artist. A team that didn’t abandon me for a single moment, making me feel protected. The meticulous preparation and attention to detail behind my character is incredible. Even though I have always lived Carnival, in just a few weeks I learned a lot about the rites and traditions handed down from year to year, including the use of the mask that I wore to cover my face when they took measurements for my dress, one of the most emotional moments.”

Martina is perfectly aware of her role and with a smile she still remembers that premonitory drawing dedicated to her by her husband Matteo. “I am happy to play such a current role, a strong and rebellious woman, just like the beautiful poster of this year’s Carnival, which perfectly symbolizes the historical moment that all women are experiencing. The Miller is a heroine who faces the pitfalls and dangers of life without fear, I hope to be up to it and be able to convey these values during the Carnival days. When the contact happened and I received the traditional carnation it was the evening of January 6th, Carnival had already started and for me it was absolutely a surprise. In that instant, a dream that until then I had only idealized came true. Even if after all, it was my husband Matteo a few years ago (in 2018) who already imagined me in the guise of Vezzosa, when he designed the sides of our wagon – The County of Montenavale – with his own hand, placing the figure of the Miller at the centre. . In that drawing the heroine’s face was inspired by me.”

Martina will be accompanied on the golden chariot by the ladies Demetra Pollono (11 years old), who already dreams of being a Mugnaia and cheers for Death, and Camilla Bernardi (9 years old), a lover of horses and the Orange Devils. The pages will be Alice Braghin, formerly Abbà in 2014, and Sofia Chirico, both 18 years old and great horse enthusiasts.
