The English actress, of French ancestry, (American Night, The Magnificent) will chair the jury of the 36th competition organized by Cannes Cinéma from November 20 to 26. A J.Bisset la Magnifique documentary, a nod to her role as a spy alongside Belmondo in 1973, will be unveiled there in preview.

In Cannes we know the famous May festival but we forget that in the fall Cannes Cinéma also organizes great cinematographic events. This year, from November 20 and 26, the 36th edition will be chaired by an actress dear to the hearts of the French since she worked with two of our sacred monsters in 1973: François Truffaut in The American night and Jean-Paul Belmondo in The magnificent by Philippe de Broca.

The English actress, who speaks French fluently, will lead a jury made up of other distinguished connoisseurs of the seventh art such as filmmaker Nadine Trintignant (The House of Jade), the actor Bruno Sanches (The Talent of my friends) and the comic strip writer Brrémaud (Eleanor).

In preview a documentary entitled J.Bisset the Magnificent will be presented to the RCC. This biographical film looks back on the career of the English actress who has worked since the age of twenty for such notable filmmakers as Peter Yates (Bullitt), John Huston (Judge and Outlaw), François Truffaut (The American night), Sidney Lumet (The crime of the Orient Express), Luigi Comencini (The Sunday Woman), George Sugar (Rich and Famous), without forgetting of course, Philippe de Broca who offered him the fanciful character of the spy Tatiana alongside Belmondo in The magnificent.

The four jurors will have to share the eight films in competition including The Teachers’ Room de İlker Çatak, Fremont by Babak Jalali, 20,000 species of bees of Estibaliz Urresola Solagu, The General’s Pawn de Makbul Mubarak, Me, Captain by Matteo Garone, Green Border de Agnieszka Holland…

This event, more aimed at the general public than the legendary international spring festival, also offers curious film buffs numerous workshops capable of satisfying them: tributes and master classes led by experts such as the critic Laurent Delmas. Finally, there is no successful festival without its host of stars. Lambert Wilson, Agnès Jaoui, Laurent Gerra, Jean-Claude Missiaen, Daniel Prévost, Michael Dichter, Alain Carradore and many others have already promised to come to the Croisette.
