Jaguar Unveils 1,015-Horsepower Type 01 Electric Grand Tourer

Jaguar has unveiled its new Type 01 all-electric grand tourer in New York, featuring a 1,015-horsepower tri-motor setup, a 450-mile estimated range, and a starting price expected to anchor around £125,000 to £130,000 ahead of market deliveries in the second half of 2027.

Jaguar Debuts New Model in New York

Rawdon Glover, the 58-year-old managing director of Jaguar, stated that executives expect the automobile to attract a younger and more affluent demographic compared to the company’s aging and dwindling historical buyer base, which primarily consisted of men in their 50s. The debut in New York City on Tuesday night marked the culmination of a two-year rebrand for the British manufacturer aimed squarely at rich tech industry buyers in America. Jaguar Land Rover positioned the launch to reposition the brand into more esteemed and profitable circles, following a period that saw falling sales and competition from rivals. As the company moved toward an entirely electric future, manufacturing of the XE, XF, and F-Type was brought to a close.

Pricing for the Type 01 is expected to center around £125,000, with some estimates placing the base figure at £120,000 and transaction prices reaching £130,000 or $130,500 before lucrative options are added. Managing director Rawdon Glover described the rebrand as a complete reset.

The brand also revealed a limited-run collection of just 10 cars available in either deep blue or satin red.

Powertrain Delivers 1,015 Horsepower

Jaguar projects that hooking the vehicle up to a 350-kW DC fast-charger will yield a 10-to-80 percent replenishment time of roughly 22 minutes, or put 200 miles of range back into the battery in about 13 minutes. Underneath its dramatic exterior, the Type 01 runs on Jaguar’s dedicated electric architecture known as JEA, which supports an 850-volt electrical system designed to deliver rapid charging at up to 350kW. The platform supports DC rapid charging alongside a split-pack setup allowing connection to both 400-volt and 800-volt chargers.

Power delivery splits 30 percent to the front and 70 percent to the rear through three electric motors combining to produce 1,015 horsepower and 1,007 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful road car Jaguar has ever built.

The setup propels the grand tourer from zero to 62 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 150 miles per hour.

Jaguar claims a maximum range of up to 435 miles via WLTP figures or up to 450 miles on expected estimates from an 118kWh battery pack.

Cabin Features Brass-Inspired Finishers

Chief materiality designer Mary Crisp noted that materials define how feelings are shaped in the cabin, utilizing rich textures and brass-inspired finishers. Measuring 5,235mm long and standing with a low roofline, the Type 01 features a long bonnet and 23-inch wheels that measure 763mm across, spanning more than half the car’s height.

“Jaguars should be objects of desire and culturally relevant – that’s their natural habitat and where Jaguar is returning.”

Rawdon Glover, managing director at Jaguar

The vehicle’s aerodynamic design achieves a drag coefficient of 0.23Cd, making it the most aerodynamic car Jaguar has ever made.

Company Plans Successors After Type 01

The vehicle is designed and engineered in the UK.

Following the Type 01, Jaguar plans to introduce subsequent models designated as Type 02 and Type 03.
