Films that focus on real events have always been well received by fans. In that sense the film ‘Jaybeam’ directed by Gnanavell and starring Surya in the lead role was released.
The film, which was released on the ODT site on the eve of Diwali last year, has been well-received internationally by people across language, race and gender.
The film is based on a true story set in the 1990s. It was taken as a way of exposing the human rights violations committed by the police for the wrong done not to the indigenous people belonging to the dark society. Actor Surya effectively played the role of a lawyer fighting for justice for the victim Chengani (Parvathi Ammal).
Jay Beam has received many awards and accolades from all over the world. Jay Beam has won 3 awards at the Noida International Film Festival in that category. Accordingly, Surya has been selected for Best Picture, Best Actor and Lijomol for Best Actress.
