PF asks for breach of bank secrecy of former president Bolsonaro (PL)
Former president Jair Bolsonaro is mentioned repeatedly throughout the 105 pages of the Federal Police (PF) document that investigates an international scheme to sell jewelry and gifts illegally received during his term. According to information released this Friday in the Jornal Nacional, Bolsonaro’s name appears 93 times on the pages of the investigations.
The mentions, says the report, begin with the very definition of the focus of the investigation, which refers to the “diversion of assets of high patrimonial value delivered by foreign authorities to the former President of the Republic Jair Messiah Bolsonaro
or public agents at their service, and subsequent concealment for the purpose of illicit enrichment”.
The document also reveals exchanges of messages between people close to Bolsonaro, including former assistant Mauro Cid and Marcelo Câmara, former special advisor to the former president. In one of the messages, Mauro Cid mentions that General Mauro Lourena Cid had $25,000, possibly belonging to Bolsonaro, and discusses possible ways of delivering the money.
The PF report also highlights dialogues that indicate knowledge of legal restrictions on the sale of goods abroad. The police requested the breach of Bolsonaro’s banking and tax secrecy, as well as authorization for his testimony at the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
The investigation aims to determine whether the money for the jewelry actually reached Bolsonaro and the origin of the funds used to repurchase the pieces.

Jair Bolsonaro’s defense team released a note in response to the investigation, in which it states that the former president has never appropriated or embezzled public assets and makes his bank transactions available to the Judiciary.

“The defense of President Jair Bolsonaro, voluntarily and without being prompted, petitioned the TCU – still in mid-March, next past – requesting the deposit of the items in that Court, until the final decision on their treatment – which in fact was done. President Bolsonaro reiterates that he has never appropriated or embezzled any public assets, making his bank transactions available to the Judiciary”.
