Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has publicly apologized for spitting on Steelers safety Jalen Ramsey during their Week 11 matchup,an incident that led to a one-game suspension for Chase and an ejection for Ramsey. The apology, issued via social media on Monday, was the central topic of chase’s press conference on Tuesday – his first since completing the suspension served in Week 12.
Chase described his actions during the fourth-quarter exchange with Ramsey as being “out of control, out of character.” Ramsey was ejected from the game after responding to the provocation with a punch.
A Line Crossed in Heated Exchange
According to Chase, attempts by opponents to provoke him are not uncommon. Though, he indicated that this particular instance felt different, stating, “There’s stuff you’re going to allow and stuff you’re not going to allow. There’s a limit to everything.” He refrained from detailing the specific events that led to his loss of composure, but emphasized that a boundary had been breached.
Unconcerned with Lasting Impact
Despite the suspension and the negative attention surrounding the incident, Chase expressed a lack of concern regarding any potential lasting stigma. “I don’t really have nothing to prove with who I am,” he stated. “Either you like me or you don’t. I could care less.. . . I’m going out there to be the same player I am and play football. At the end of the day, nobody gonna stop me from who I am.”
