Jambi Lecturer’s Murder: Police Detail Suspect’s Attempts to Conceal Crime

A shocking case of murder and alleged rape has unfolded in Bungo Regency, Jambi, Indonesia, with authorities detailing the elaborate attempts of a police officer to cover up his crimes. Bripda Waldi, a 22-year-old member of the Tebo Police, is accused of murdering EY, a 37-year-old lecturer and Head of the Undergraduate Nursing Study Program at the Setih Setio Institute of Management and Health (IAKSS) in Muaro Bungo.

The victim’s body was discovered by residents around 1:00 PM local time on Saturday, november 1, 2025, at her home in Sungai Mengkuang Hamlet, Central Rimbo District. A swift investigation led to the arrest of Bripda Waldi on Sunday, november 2, 2025, in the Central Tebo area.

Suspect Described as ‘Tenacious and Cunning’

According to a senior official, the suspect demonstrated a calculated effort to erase evidence. “This perpetrator is tenacious and cunning. So there is no evidence yet, it’s impossible for him to admit it. Although we are not pursuing the perpetrator’s confession,” the official stated. Investigators found that Bripda Waldi attempted to clean the crime scene, “mopping or wiping” surfaces to remove traces of his presence.

The suspect also allegedly stole several of the victim’s possessions, including an iPhone, jewelry, a Honda Jazz car, and a PCX motorbike.

Disguise and Digital Deception

The investigation took a bizarre turn with the revelation that Bripda Waldi allegedly disguised himself with a wig after the murder. This detail emerged from CCTV footage and corroborating witness testimony. “So it is indeed identical to the testimony of witnesses in front of the house or to the side that the perpetrator was long-haired. It is indeed true that this perpetrator was wearing a wig or fake hair,” a police spokesperson confirmed.

Further complicating the case, investigators believe the suspect responded to a message sent to the victim’s phone on the morning of the murder, likely while she was already deceased. “The victim’s cellphone was in the car. So, there was a WA with one of the witnesses, the victim’s friend. When the person answered that morning, we thought he was no longer the victim,” explained the official. This communication misled investigators initially and provided a crucial lead in identifying Bripda Waldi.

Autopsy Reveals Evidence of Assault and Rape

Police are currently awaiting the full results of the victim’s autopsy, conducted by a forensic doctor from the Bhayangkara Regional Police Hospital, Jambi, at Hanafie Bungo Hospital. A preliminary post-mortem examination revealed bruises on the victim’s face, neck, and shoulders, as well as a head wound. Crucially, the autopsy also confirmed the suspicion of rape, with the presence of sperm found in the victim’s clothing.

Authorities are exploring the possibility of additional suspects being involved in the crime. The victim’s car, iPhone, and jewelry have been confiscated as evidence, while her Honda PCX motorbike was recovered near Hanafie Bungo Hospital.

Romantic Entanglements as Potential Motive

the initial investigation suggests a possible motive rooted in a “personal problem and a romantic relationship” between the suspect and the victim. However, investigators are continuing to explore all potential avenues to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic event. “Currently, investigators are still investigating other possible motives,” stated the official.

The case has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised questions about vetting procedures within the police force. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to bring all those responsible to justice.
