James “Jimmy” Cantrell, 68, of Smithville, Tennessee, Passes Away

A Smithville, Tennessee, resident, James “Jimmy” Cantrell, 68, died at his home on Saturday, December 6, 2025, following a full life dedicated to work and collecting. His passing marks the end of an era for his family and community.

Born on January 10, 1957, in Painesville, Ohio, Cantrell was the son of the late Ernest Clifton Cantrell, Sr., and Lillian Lanning Cantrell, Sr. He spent his life building a legacy of hard work and appreciation for history.

Cantrell retired from a career as a factory worker, a profession he approached with dedication and skill. Beyond his professional life, he cultivated a passion for antique collecting, amassing a collection that reflected his keen eye and appreciation for the past.

He is survived by his brothers, Ernest Cantrell, Jr., and Harvey Cantrell. He also leaves behind a legacy cherished by his nieces, Sabra Murphy, Rachel Cantrell, Alex Carpenter, and Dalila Cantrell, as well as his nephews, Chris Cantrell, Charles Cantrell, and Zollie Cantrell.

In accordance with his wishes, Cantrell will be cremated, and the family has chosen not to hold a formal service. They request that those wishing to honor his memory consider making donations to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to assist with final expenses.
