A heartwarming and chaotic road trip comedy featuring James Franco and Gene Simmons has wrapped principal photography, signaling a significant creative stride for independent production company Cloud9 Studios. “Love Meets in the Sunshine,” directed by Christian Guiton, is currently in post-production and promises a blend of sharp wit and emotional depth.
A Unique Story Takes Shape in New Mexico
The film centers around an unlikely pairing: a terminally ill optimist portrayed by Franco, who convinces a reluctant and grumpy drifter (Cloud 9 co-founder Nick Antonyan) to drive him across the desert in search of a potentially dubious doctor (Forrie J. Smith). What begins as a straightforward journey quickly spirals into a transformative experience for both men.
“James delivers nuance, soul and sharp comedic instincts, and the level of his craft lifts every scene,” Guiton stated. “Nick and I have worked together for almost a decade on various web projects, but films have always been our goal. To finally make it happen is beyond words.”
Stellar Cast & Creative Team
Alongside Franco, Antonyan, and Simmons, the film boasts a strong supporting cast including Nicky Whelan (“The Wedding Ringer”), Forrie J. Smith (“Yellowstone”), and Quinton Aaron (“The Blind Side”). A special appearance by comedian Aries Spears (“Jerry Maguire”) adds another layer of comedic talent to the project.
The story was co-written by Guiton and Antonyan, reflecting a long-standing creative partnership. The production took place across Socorro and Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, providing a striking backdrop for the narrative.
Cloud9 Studios Champions Creative Control
Cloud9 Studios, founded by Noli Molla and Jacques Abrahamian, fully financed the film, a strategic decision that allowed for complete creative autonomy. “By financing the film internally we retain complete creative control, it lets us move fast and protect the film’s creative identity,” explained Molla, CEO of Cloud9.
Abrahamian, the company’s CFO, added, “Cloud9 is building something powerful. Our independence allows bold creative swings, and this film proves what we can achieve.” Producers Molla and Abrahamian both highlighted the positive energy brought to the set by the cast and crew. “Gene’s presence added electricity to the set. He’s larger than life, and audiences are going to love what he brings to the screen,” Abrahamian noted.
According to a company release, the production benefited from Franco’s dedication and artistry, setting a high standard for the entire team. The film aims to seamlessly blend comedic timing with genuine emotional resonance, a testament to Guiton’s vision and storytelling ability.
“Nick brings both heart and hilarity,” Guiton added.
“Love Meets in the Sunshine” represents a significant step forward for Cloud9 Studios, demonstrating its commitment to supporting independent filmmaking and fostering a space for bold, creative expression.
