CHENNAI, January 8, 2026 – Fans of Tamil superstar Vijay are bracing for a wait after the worldwide release of his highly anticipated film, Jana Nayagan, was postponed due to issues securing clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The delay, announced late last night, comes just two days before the filmS scheduled theatrical debut on January 9.
Worldwide Release Halted Amid Censorship Concerns
The eagerly awaited film faces indefinite postponement as it awaits final approval from the CBFC.
- KVN Productions confirmed the postpo
KVN Productions stated on X. “The new release date will be announced at the earliest. Until then, we humbly request your patience and continued love. Your unwavering support is our greatest strength and means everything to the entire Jana Nayagan team.”
Malik Streams Corporation, the film’s distributor in Malaysia, echoed this sentiment, stating they are awaiting further updates from the production team. “Once the new release date is confirmed, official announcements will be shared through our authorised platforms,” the distributor said, urging fans to remain calm and united.
The postponement is especially striking given the pre-release buzz. TGV Cinemas in Malaysia revealed last Tuesday that over 80,000 tickets had already been pre-sold, a testament to Vijay’s immense popularity. The film is widely considered to be Vijay’s final project before he fully transitions into politics with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
What is causing the delay of Jana Nayagan? The film has been awaiting a censor certificate for over a month, with the CBFC initially requesting cuts and muted dialog on December 19.
On Wednesday, the Madras High Court reserved its order regarding the film’s release, directing the CBFC to form a new committee to review the content. This followed a petition from the producers after the initial certification request was denied. No announcements regarding ticket refunds have been made at this time.
jana Nayagan, directed by H vinoth, features a star-studded cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain.
