‘Host’ Choi Gyeong-ju lost 1 stroke and tied for 39th place
Jang Yu-bin (22) took the lead on the second day of the Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance Choi Kyung-ju Invitational (total prize money of 1.25 billion won) on the Korea Professional Golf (KPGA) Tour.
In the second round of the tournament held at the Ferrum Club (par 72) in Yeoju, Gyeonggi-do on the 4th, Jang Yu-bin hit 5 under par 67 with no bogeys and 5 birdies.
Jang Yu-bin, who recorded an intermediate total of 7 under par 137 strokes, took the sole lead by dragging Lee Su-min (31, 6 under par 138 strokes), who was unable to reduce the number of strokes, to second place.
As a result, Jang Yu-bin is aiming for her second win this year, following her win at the Gunsan CC Open last July. Jang Yu-bin entered the top 10 eight times this year, including once as a winner and as runner-up three times, and is ranked first in Genesis Grand Prize points with consistent results. It also ranks second in the prize money category (approximately 678.61 million won).
Jang Yu-bin, who started the game at the 10th hole (par 4), gained momentum by catching a birdie from the beginning. He then reduced one stroke in the 14th hole (par 3) to chase down Su-min Lee.
He then made a birdie at the 4th hole (par 4) and then recorded birdies at the 6th hole (par 4) and 9th hole (par 5), finishing the second round in the lead.
After the game, Jang Yu-bin said, “I acknowledged my mistake the day before and forgot about it. “Overall, the shots, putts, and short game all went well,” he said, expressing satisfaction.
He continued, “I hope to continue playing well for the remaining two days. “I don’t know when or what situation will come, but I will prepare mainly for the short game,” he said, adding, “I will play without being greedy.”
Su-min Lee, who was the sole leader on the first day, had three birdies that day, but failed to reduce the number of strokes by making one bogey and one double bogey, and ended up in second place.
Veteran Hwang In-chun (50) reduced 2 strokes and took sole 3rd place with a total of 5 under par 139 strokes.
Ham Jeong-woo (30), who is aiming to win the tournament three times, the most, lost one stroke and recorded 1 under par 143 strokes, tied for 15th place.
Meanwhile, ‘host’ Choi Gyeong-ju (54), who holds the record for the oldest win on the KPGA Tour, recorded 3 birdies and 4 bogeys and only shot 1 over par 73.
Choi Gyeong-ju, who recorded an intermediate total of 3 over par 147 strokes, was tied for 39th place. Choi Kyung-ju won the SK Telecom Open last May at the age of 54, setting the record for the oldest win on the KPGA Tour.
