Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa has postponed to an undetermined date a flight around the Moon planned for 2023 with a crew of 7 non-professional astronauts under his command.

“The flight around the Moon dearMoon was planned for 2023, but we refused to launch during this year…” he wrote on the social network X, adding that he could not yet give the exact timing of the resumption of the trip.

In the spring of 2021, the head of the clothing company ZOZOTOWN Maezawa announced on the YouTube channel that he was recruiting for seven vacant positions for an expedition with him around the Moon in two years on the SpaceX Starship.

The entrepreneur promised to pay all expenses. During the selection process, applicants for a place on the ship had to explain how a flight into space would affect them, how the participant could serve the benefit of society as a whole, and how he could be useful to the crew.
