Chennai: The Chennai High Court has granted conditional bail to former AIADMK minister Jayakumar in a case of assault on a DMK official.

Former AIADMK minister Jayakumar was arrested by the Chennai police on the night of February 20 in connection with the attack on a DMK leader in Washermenpet, Chennai.

He was charged with six counts of threatening to kill, inciting riot and assault and was remanded in judicial custody. He is currently out on conditional bail.

They have been ordered to stay in Trichy for two weeks and sign at the Trichy Cantonment Police Station on Monday and Friday for two days.

Earlier, Jayakumar had filed a petition in the George Town Court and the Chennai High Court seeking bail. Jayakumar’s petition was dismissed in both the courts.

The petition came up for hearing before Chennai High Court Judge Jagadish Chandra. Then on behalf of the police, the DMK official who was assaulted in this case and admitted to the hospital recovered and returned home. It was therefore informed that bail may be granted.

Jayakumar’s side also said that the person had recovered and returned home and was ready to accept the court conditions.

Hearing this, Judge Jayakumar was granted conditional bail. The judge ordered that the conditions of the court should not be violated and that full co-operation should be given to the trial of the case.
