Seeing Jayalalithaa’s dancing skills, director P. Arbandhu introduced her as the second lead in his Kannada film Chinnada Kombi. Kalyan Kumar and Kalpana played the lead roles. The film was produced simultaneously in both Kannada and Tamil languages. Shivaji in Tamil was released on November 3, 1964 as Muradan Muthu starring Devika. The next day on the 4th, the Kannada film hit the screens.
