Pritzker’s Financial Disclosures
The tax filing, released by Pritzker’s campaign on Wednesday, October 14, details the governor and his wife, MK, reporting approximately $10.7 million in adjusted gross income, according to reports from the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times, and NBC News. A important portion of this income – $1.4 million – stemmed from winnings at a Las vegas casino.
“The Governor had winnings and losses from a casino during the year and those amounts are reported on his tax return,” a campaign spokesperson stated, as reported by the Tribune. Pritzker himself addressed the winnings during a press conference on Thursday, October 16, explaining, “I went on vacation with my wife, with some friends. I was incredibly lucky. You have to be to end up ahead, frankly, going to a casino anywhere – it was in Las Vegas – and I like to play cards.” The campaign has indicated that Pritzker intends to donate his casino winnings to charity.
Wealth and Income Growth
The Sun-Times noted that Governor Pritzker does not receive a salary for his position and his estimated net worth is around $3.9 billion. The $10.7 million income reported for last year represents more than a threefold increase compared to the $2.8 million reported by the couple in 2023.
Ongoing dispute with Former President Trump
Beyond his financial disclosures, Pritzker remains engaged in a highly publicized disagreement with former President Trump. The conflict centers on Trump’s proposals to deploy National Guard troops to Chicago to address crime and support federal immigration enforcement. Pritzker has been a vocal opponent of this plan.
On October 9, a judge temporarily blocked the deployment of troops for at least two weeks, according to the Associated Press. Pritzker responded to the ruling, stating, “The court confirmed what we all know: there is no credible evidence of a rebellion in the state of illinois. And no place for the National Guard in the streets of American cities like Chicago.”
