Jeff Bezos sold 12 million Amazon shares in the market this week. These titles, according to the stock market close on Friday, at $174.45 per share, mean pocketing around 2,000 million euros (2,088 million dollars).
Amazon announced on February 2 that Bezos plans to sell up to 50 million Amazon shares in the next 12 months, to cash in on the e-commerce giant’s rise in the stock market, 78% in the last 12 months and 13% in the last month. This package of 50 million shares is valued at more than 80 billion.
This appreciation in shares has made Bezos the richest person in the world. His fortune has gone from 21,000 million euros (22,600 million dollars) to 180,000 million euros (199,500 million dollars, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index) in one year. This rise in Amazon shares has allowed him to displace, for for the first time since 2021, Elon Musk is the richest person on earth.
The founder of Amazon has sold more than 28 billion euros ($30 billion) in shares of the company he founded since 2002. The figure between 2020 and 2021 was 18 billion euros ($20 billion).
