He Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital consolidates, for yet another edition, the first position in the Hospital Excellence Index (IEH General 2023).
The IEH is the ranking prepared each year by the Coordinated Institute of Governance and Applied Economics (ICGEA). “The outstanding performance of the Jiménez Díaz Foundation, its commitment to excellence and highly qualified managementbacked by the achievement of great achievements that shape its trajectory, as well as by the data that is continually published in the sector, which shows that it has smaller waiting lists to receive assistance or undergo surgery compared to other hospitals, have been key to sustaining his leadership position for the last eight years,” said Jesús Sánchez Lambás, executive vice president of the ICGEA.
According to this entity, the IEH General measures “the level of excellence of the country’s hospital centers, which is reflected, among other aspects, in their highly qualified staff, which includes some of the best doctors and specialists in Europe; significant investments in hospital infrastructure and medical technology; the high scientific level; the way patient care is approached, with a growing emphasis on humanization of care; and, also, by the wide accessibility characteristic of the Spanish health system”.
“We are facing the eighth edition of a list that aims to analyze those attributes of hospital centers that contribute most actively and notably to Spanish healthcare is, today, one of the best in the world. “A hospital excellence that is characterized by the combination of high-quality medical care, the provision of the most avant-garde technology and a holistic and humanized approach to patient care, making the citizens’ health experience the best at all levels,” said Sánchez Lambás.
“The IEH brings with it a peculiarity in 2023: the undisputed leadership of the Community of Madrid by heading the first three positions in the national top 10 with three centers in the region, considered by many as three of the great standards of Spanish healthcare,” says Sánchez Lambás, in reference to the Fundación Jiménez Díaz (1st) and La Paz (2nd) -who maintain positions compared to last year-, and Gregorio Marañón (3rd) -who gains one place-.
He said that Madrid’s health strength “is even more reinforced by having two other centers in the top ten positions, specifically the Ruber Internacional Hospital (6th) – which this year climbs one position – and the San Carlos Clinical Hospital ( 7º) -which loses two-“.
The top 5 is completed by Catalonia, with the Hospital Clínic Barcelona (4th) -which loses one place- and the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital (5th), -which gains one-. The great novelty at the regional and national level is that Catalonia incorporates the Teknon Medical Center (9th) into the IEH General again this year, leaving the Quirónsalud Barcelona Hospital (10th) in tenth position. These centers bring Catalonia to a total of 4 hospitals in the top 10, completed by the only Valencian center present on the list, the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe (8th) – which this year gains a position compared to 2022 -.
“The IEH 2023 demonstrates, post covid19, that the continuous commitment of Spanish centers to maintain the highest standards of hospital quality is indisputable, exceeding the European average. In Spain, therefore, we can say that the level of hospital excellence is widely recognized both nationally and internationally. The quality of care, the training of its specialists, the growing commitment to the humanization of care, the growing investment in research and development, as well as the wide accessibility, demonstrate the commitment of Spanish centers to contribute to configuring a health system that not only treat diseases, promote prevention, general well-being and the quality of life of its citizens in all its aspects,” said Jesús Sánchez Lambás.
