“Chihara-san” Manga to Receive Anime Adaptation in 2026

A new television anime adaptation of Get’s popular manga series, “Chihara-san” (also known as “Are You a Jirai Girl, Chihara-san?”), is slated to premiere in 2026, bringing the unique school comedy to a wider audience. The announcement, made Thursday via the anime’s official website, signals a significant step for the manga, which has garnered attention for its distinctive premise and characters.

From Manga to Anime: A Rising Star

The project is being helmed by a team of seasoned animation professionals. Yasuaki Fujii, known for his episode direction on series like “Teasing Master Takagi-san” and “Aikatsu!”, will serve as director at Synergy SP. Keiichirō Ōchi, whose credits include “Aikatsu!”, “Summer Pockets,” and “The Quintessential Quintuplets,” is overseeing the series scripts, ensuring a compelling narrative flow. Character design will be led by None (credited for work on “Macross Delta” and “UniteUp!”), while Arisa Okehazama (“Jujutsu Kaisen,” “DIGIMON BEATBREAK”) will compose the music at King Records.

Familiar Voices Return for Key Roles

The anime will feature Sayumi Suzushiro and Kazuki Ura reprising their roles as Mai Chihara and Kuroki, respectively, from earlier voice comic adaptations. This continuity promises to deliver a consistent and nuanced portrayal of the beloved characters.

A “Landmine” of a Story

The story centers on Mai Chihara, a student whose striking appearance – described as having doll-like skin, unusually red lips and eyes, and a perpetually unhappy expression – earns her the label of a “landmine.” Kuroki, a more unassuming classmate, finds himself seated next to her and quickly discovers that Chihara is far more complex than rumors suggest. As he gets to know her, he witnesses her unexpected quirks, including a somewhat air-headed nature, clumsiness, and a fondness for cats and gyoza.

Award-Winning Source Material

Get initially launched the manga on the GANMA! service in June 2021. The series’ popularity continued to grow, culminating in a “Next Impact Comic” award at the second Rakuten Kobo E-book Awards in 2024, solidifying its position as a rising star in the manga world.

The adaptation promises to deliver a fresh and engaging take on this unique story, captivating audiences with its blend of comedy and heartwarming character development.
