Symbolizing all the richness of the aesthetic heritage which has distinguished Moroccan civilization over the centuries, this garden, which extends over an area of ​​7.5 hectares, includes 3,000 plant species and remains, to this day, an unmissable destination and Exception for visitors to the Idrisid city.

Open to the public, this imperturbable ecological space constitutes a haven of peace and tranquility. With its shapes close to Andalusian gardens, it invites botany enthusiasts to discover exotic plant species from different countries, including China and India.

The garden is bordered by eight huge ornate iron gates, allowing residents to easily cross this space to move between the old medina and the new city, hence the name of the garden “Sbil”, i.e. tell the way.

Inside the garden, majestic trees, witnesses of different eras, stand alongside magnificent fountains, streams and ponds, in a picture of breathtaking beauty.

Over the years, “Jnane Sbil” has become a source of inspiration for many gardeners and poets who sing its praises.

This green outlet on the edge of the medina, now a historic garden, was developed by the Alaouite Sultan Moulay Abdallah in the 18th century, before it became a princely garden surrounded by high walls in the 19th century. It was opened to the general public in 1917, enriched with new varieties of plants and equipped with benches.

What particularly attracts attention is the central mall which crosses the garden, lined with washingtonias, large bamboos and pines, where you can shelter from the heat in the shade of eucalyptus and trees fruit trees.

Given its historical importance, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, launched the rehabilitation, maintenance and restoration work on this site in 2007, in partnership with the wilaya of Fez, the Commune Mechouar-Fez Jdid and other stakeholders. “Jnane Sbil” reopened its doors in 2010, sporting its new look.

In a statement to MAP, the president of the Communes Jnane Sbil group, Fadoua Dadoune, indicated that this ecological garden is considered a historical heritage of the spiritual capital and an emblematic space for the population, attracting a large number of tourists and tourists on a daily basis. of visitors.

She said that a space reserved exclusively for students was created while a small mosque was built with reeds in response to the expectations of the various visitors to Jnane Sbil.

Open to the general public, Jnane Sbil also contributes to the cultural influence of Fez by hosting numerous theatrical performances and traditional music concerts (Andalusian music, malhoun, spiritual music, etc.).
