The mayor of Recife, João Campos (PSD), platinum-colored his hair for the opening of the carnival in the capital of Pernambuco, which took place this Wednesday (7/2).
In December 2023, the mayor accepted the challenge from MC Anderson Neiff, the name of brega funk, to do “nevou”, that is, turn his hair white. Since then, internet users have started demanding João Campos’ change of look. The mayor himself joked several times about platinumizing his hair for Carnival.
On social media, Campos said that the new look is more than just hair, but “an act of respect” for the population of Recife. “The long-awaited, much-requested snowfall is now a reality. Not only to play carnival, but I think it is also an act of respect, of valuing our people, our culture, the periphery, where our talent, our creativity, our resilience, then, the mayor who asked so much for it to snow, it snowed. Carnival has started.”
According to the mayor, the change was approved by the family and copied by one of his brothers. His girlfriend, federal deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP), also liked the look, despite having only seen it via video call.
The salon chosen for the change was that of Rosinaldo Bezerra Menezes, known as Mágico Menezes, which is located in the Roda de Fogo community, in Torrões, West Zone of Recife. There, the barber even had a caricature of the mayor painted with platinum hair.
On the mayor’s Instagram, the “snowed” pleased users. “Be careful not to catch a cold, my mayor. And thank you for making it snow in Recife. It was too hot!”, said one. “A perfect mayor like this would have to be from Recife! A snowy one matching the eye color palette, only my mayor has it”, added another.
