Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey & Wolfgang Sign with MLW: Former WWE Gallus Debuts as GBOT

The landscape of professional wrestling continues to shift, and a modern force has firmly planted its flag in Major League Wrestling (MLW). Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey, and Wolfgang – formerly known as Gallus during their time with WWE – have officially signed contracts with MLW, debuting as the faction “Glasgow Boys on Top,” or GBOT. The move marks a fresh start for the trio, who are eager to produce a significant impact on the MLW roster, and beyond.

Their arrival in MLW wasn’t a complete surprise. The group first appeared at Battle Riot VIII earlier this year, immediately making waves with their aggressive style and undeniable presence. Within two months, the commitment was solidified, signaling a clear intent from both sides. This isn’t simply a change of scenery; it’s a deliberate step toward a new chapter for Coffey, Coffey, and Wolfgang, one where they intend to be at the remarkably top.

“We wanted to go and demonstrate what we could do,” Joe Coffey explained, “And it just seemed like a really good environment to be in.” He highlighted MLW’s “deep and talented roster,” expressing excitement about the opportunities for compelling matchups. The decision, however, wasn’t solely about the competition. It was about control and a shift in mindset. “We are the GBOT,” Coffey declared. “It stands for a lot of things, but it’s Glasgow Boys on Top. I’ve done my time, just playing my part and being a good soldier. I’m not here just to make up any numbers. I’m here to show what Joe Coffey is all about.”

That ambition is already being directed toward the current MLW World Heavyweight Champion, Killer Kross. Coffey didn’t mince words, stating, “Killer Kross, I’m not really interested in him. I’m interested in what he’s got around his waist, to be honest.” This direct challenge sets the stage for a potential high-stakes rivalry and immediately establishes GBOT as contenders for the championship.

Beyond WWE: A Choice and a Philosophy

The path to MLW wasn’t without other potential destinations. Reports surfaced in January, as noted by WrestleVotes Radio, that All Elite Wrestling (AEW) had expressed interest in bringing the trio onboard. GBOT chose MLW, a decision rooted in a rejection of what Coffey describes as “tribalism” within professional wrestling. “The tribalism in pro wrestling, I’m not really a fan of. I couldn’t really care less,” he said. “The business is thriving as a whole, so I don’t understand why people aren’t happy.”

Coffey’s perspective is informed by a long-held appreciation for the industry’s history. He recalled the closure of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 2001, a moment of disappointment for many fans. Looking back, he recognizes the overreaction. “There was so much talent in that one company at the time,” he reflected, suggesting a broader view of the wrestling landscape. This philosophy directly influenced their decision, leading them to MLW, a promotion they believe is “going forward, it’s moving forward, it’s pushing on, it’s becoming bigger and bigger every time.”

The transition wasn’t seamless, however. Following their release from WWE in May 2025, the group faced unexpected hurdles related to their visas. As international talents, their work permits were tied to their WWE contracts. Joe Coffey revealed the complications, explaining that he was “stranded in the United States for months.” He had established a life in Orlando, Florida, with a girlfriend, but was forced to return home while navigating the visa process, a separation that lasted approximately four months.

The Realities of a Release and a Renewed Hunger

The experience shattered the often-glamorized image of free agency in professional wrestling. “People think, oh, it’s all roses,” Coffey said. “And then they think you’ll leave WWE and you’ll do all these signings. Nah, it doesn’t work like that.” He emphasized that they were “cooled off majorly on the way out,” leaving them essentially starting from scratch. This realization fueled a renewed sense of hunger and determination.

Coffey as well expressed frustration with limited opportunities during his time in WWE, specifically regarding his ability to connect with the audience through his voice. “Actually supply me a microphone as well, you barely had me talk for three years,” he stated emphatically. “I can talk the hind legs off a donkey. Not a problem.” This desire to showcase his full range of abilities is a key motivator as he embarks on this new chapter with MLW.

Looking Ahead: GBOT’s Impact on MLW

The arrival of GBOT represents a significant investment in talent for MLW. The promotion has been steadily building momentum, and the addition of a seasoned and determined group like the Glasgow Boys on Top is poised to elevate the product further. The immediate focus, as indicated by Joe Coffey’s challenge, is on the MLW World Heavyweight Championship. However, the potential for storylines and rivalries extends far beyond that, promising a dynamic and exciting period for MLW fans.

The next scheduled MLW event is MLW: Fury Road on April 12th, where fans can expect to see GBOT in action and potentially witness the first steps in their pursuit of championship gold. The coming weeks will undoubtedly reveal more about their plans and how they intend to establish their dominance in MLW.
