by time news

He went down in US crime history as a killer clown and became a book template for the famous horror novel “ES” by Stephen King. Serial killer John Wayne Gacy († 52) became a bit of a pop phenomenon with at least 33 brutal murders. When he made his last walk to the execution in 1994, the death district was besieged by around 1,000 onlookers.

Chicago (Illinois) – Now US investigators have identified another victim of the ruthless killer. Particularly bitter: The dead man’s family had thought for 45 years that he had just broken off contact!

Police had found Francis Wayne Alexander’s remains in a crawl space under Gacy’s house ten years ago. Along with 25 other bodies. But only now have the investigators been able to identify him with the help of DNA investigators.

Alexander was 21 or 22 years old when Gacy killed him between early 1976 and early 1977, Sheriff Tom Dart told a press conference Monday.

Carolyn Sanders, the dead man’s sister: “It is difficult, even 45 years later, to know the fate of our beloved Wayne. He was killed by the hand of a hideous and evil man. ”

On behalf of the family, she said, “Our hearts are heavy and our condolences go out to the families of the other victims. We can now let what happened and look ahead by honoring Wayne. “

However, the details of Alexander’s life in Chicago are poorly known. According to the investigators, the fact is: he was born in North Carolina, moved to New York, where he married, and then to Chicago in 1975, where he was divorced shortly afterwards.

According to the sheriff’s office press release, the last known record of Alexander’s life was parking tickets. He got the last one in January 1976. It was probably a year in which he earned little money.

How he came into contact with one of the most notorious serial killers in American history is a mystery. Authorities say they only knew that “Alexander lived in an area frequented by Gacy and where other identified victims had previously lived.”

It is also known: Gacy lured some of the other victims into his house by promising them craft jobs. However, Alexander worked in bars and clubs.

The identities of five other cellar corpses have still not been clarified.

“Lick my ass!”

Gacy killed the first time in 1972 and was sentenced to death in the spring of 1980. The record verdict: 21 times for life and 12 times the death penalty!

During the trial, the defendant showed no remorse, instead allowing himself a cynical “joke”: his only crime was “running a cemetery without a license”.

In May 1994 the time had finally come: Gacy was executed by lethal injection at the Stateville Correctional Center.

For the executioner’s meal, the death row inmate chose fried chicken and a pound of strawberries. A memory of the past? In 1966, the four-time high school dropout temporarily ran a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Iowa.

Shortly before the execution, Gacy was allowed to say goodbye to family members at the final dinner and to receive comfort from a Catholic priest. But Gacy’s last words were: “Kiss my ass!”

Then the execution: only on the second attempt could the injection be effectively given. After an 18-minute agony, the prisoner’s death was finally determined. When the news of the death was confirmed, spontaneous cheers broke out in front of the gates of the institute among the curious onlookers who had traveled.
