Johnson Wagner Joins CBS Golf Team as On-Course Reporter, Continues Shot Recreations
CBS Sports has added a familiar face – and swing – to its golf coverage. Three-time PGA Tour winner Johnson Wagner was announced Friday as the newest member of the Golf on CBS team, where he will serve as an on-course reporter during broadcasts. Wagner will also contribute to digital platforms with tournament previews, recaps, and original content.
Wagner joins a seasoned broadcast team alongside on-course reporters Dottie Pepper and Mark Immelman. Coverage will be led in the Super Tower by Jim Nantz, Trevor Immelman, Frank Noblio, and Colt Knost, with Amanda Balionis handling interviews and Andrew Catalon hosting select events.
“I’ve done a lot of things in my life – I’ve played on the PGA Tour, working in TV the last three years – but I can’t think of a moment that I’ve been more happy and like a ‘pinch me’ moment than this right now,” Wagner stated. “Being on the CBS Sports golf team, I’m just excited to sink my teeth in and get to work. Working with Jim Nantz, with Trev, with Frank, with Dottie, with Mark, with Catalon, with everybody, I am just – words truly can’t describe how excited I am to be joining this team.”
Wagner’s previous experience includes a run with NBC Sports and Golf Channel, where he gained popularity for his recreations of golf shots from that day’s tournament action. He confirmed that this signature element will continue in his new role at CBS.
Addressing concerns about leaving Golf Channel and the “Live From” show, Wagner assured fans that the shot recreations are not going anywhere. “I know a lot of people are kind of concerned with me leaving Golf Channel and ‘Live From,’ that we are not going to be doing recreations anymore, and I have to say that is not the case,” he explained. “I don’t know if they are going to be signature events, I don’t know where they are going to be yet, but we are going to crush it.” He expressed enthusiasm for evolving and building upon the foundation he established at Golf Channel.
The Golf on CBS season will kick off at the Farmers Insurance Open at the end of January, with coverage available across CBS and Paramount+. The network will also air the Masters and PGA Championship, along with seven of the eight signature events on the 2026 PGA Tour schedule and all three tournaments comprising the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Wagner’s addition signals CBS’s commitment to providing comprehensive and engaging golf coverage, blending insightful analysis with a player’s perspective.
