jpnn.comJAKARTA – Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) of the National Police’s Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, said that the police were assisting in the search for a cargo plane belonging to the Smart Air airline whose contract was lost in Malinau, North Kalimantan (Kaltara).

“According to information from the Nunukan Police Chief, members of the South Krayan Police were dispatched on Friday (8/3) afternoon to search the location where the Smart Air plane was suspected to have crashed,” said Trunoyudo in Jakarta, Saturday.

Trunoyudo explained that the cargo plane belonging to PT Smart Aviation, type PC 6 (Pilatus Porter) Registration PK-SNE, Tarakan-Binuang route experienced a loss of communication after taking off from Tarakan at 08.25 WITA, with an estimated landing in Binuang at 09.25 WITA.

However, until now the position of the Smart Air plane carrying the pioneering APBN cargo is unknown.

Based on a report from the Head of Public Relations of the North Kalimantan Regional Police, Kombes Budi Rachmat, said Trunoyudo, officers who had been dispatched to the location where the plane was thought to have crashed had not found any information.

“Until now there have been no reports regarding limited cell phone signal networks,” he said.

Search efforts have been carried out by the Tarakan Basarnas Team since Friday afternoon. They coordinate with Airnav, airports, MAF, Polri and other related agencies.

The search team involved 66 joint personnel consisting of 20 TNI personnel, 20 Malinau Police personnel, 10 Brimob personnel, 10 BPBD personnel and six SAR personnel.

A joint SAR team from the TNI, Polri, Basarnas and BPBD in North Kalimantan was deployed to search for the Smart Air plane which lost contact in Malinau.
