JoJo Siwa Kicks Fan Out of Glasgow Concert Over Meme-Inspired Hoodie
A fan was removed from JoJo Siwa’s Infinity Heart tour concert in Glasgow on Wednesday after wearing a hoodie featuring a meme referencing the singer’s hairline. The incident, which quickly spread online, has sparked a debate about the boundaries of fan expression and the impact of online humor.
The situation unfolded when Siwa noticed the attendee’s clothing and confronted them about it. According to reports, the hoodie displayed an image of Siwa as an egg – a meme stemming from jokes about her hair. A person claiming to be the fan subsequently posted a video to TikTok explaining their side of the story and offering an apology.
The TikToker, using the username @friendly_musician, explained that they and a friend, lacking official merchandise, decided to create their own apparel. “We were like, ‘Oh what are we going to wear?’ and we were like, ‘Oh, let’s just print out a picture and stick it on our clothes and it will be funny and JoJo has a good sense of humor so she’ll laugh as well,’” they said in the video. They admitted to simply searching for “funny JoJo Siwa pictures” and using the first image that appeared, unaware of its potentially sensitive nature.
The fan explained they intended the gesture as a lighthearted attempt to connect with Siwa. “We just googled ‘funny JoJo Siwa pictures’ and screenshotted the first thing that came up. We didn’t look where it was from or anything like that,” they stated. After Siwa inquired about what audience members were wearing, they offered her the sweater, hoping she would appreciate the joke. However, they were subsequently asked to leave the venue. The TikToker described being “about to have a panic attack because they were never kicked out of a show before.”
In a further statement, the TikToker addressed concerns about the sincerity of their apology, explaining, “this apology is completely genuine, if it doesn’t seem like it is I’m autistic and I usually seem really bored or laughing when trying to do something important.” They reiterated that there was “none of it was with malicious intent” and that they had simply passed the sweater to Siwa as she requested.
Videos circulating online confirm Siwa addressing the individual directly, requesting they depart the concert. When the person hesitated, Siwa responded, “Thank you for coming, I appreciate it, but we only got room for infinity hearts in here, right?” and added, “Not in my house baby.”
The incident highlights the challenges public figures face in navigating fan interactions and the potential for online jokes to have real-world consequences. While the fan expressed remorse and a lack of awareness regarding the meme’s origins, the situation underscores the importance of considering the impact of humor, particularly when directed at individuals’ personal characteristics.
