On Friday, Miño defeated Colombia’s Emanuel Otálvaro in a decisive match, winning with a score of 4-0. The bronze medals were awarded to Venezuela’s César Augusto Castillo and Peru’s Felipe Duffo.
Road to the Final
Miño’s path to the gold medal was marked by strategic play and resilience. In the quarterfinals, he overcame Peru’s Rodrigo Hidalgo with a clean 3-0 victory (11-9, 11-5, 11-5). The semifinal match against Castillo proved more challenging, extending to a full seven games, but Miño ultimately prevailed 4-3 (8-6, 6-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-5, 11-7, 12-10). This hard-fought win showcased his ability to perform under pressure.
Peruvian Dominance in Team and Doubles Events
While Miño claimed individual glory for Ecuador, Peru emerged as the overall powerhouse in the table tennis team events. The Peruvian team, comprised of Carlos Alonso Fernández, Diego Takeda, Rodrigo García, and Duffo, secured the gold medal in the team tournament, defeating Venezuela 3-1 in the final.
The Peruvian success continued in the doubles competition, where the pairing of Duffo and Fernández triumphed over their compatriots, Takeda and Hidalgo, with a final score of 1-3. This internal competition highlights the depth of talent within the Peruvian table tennis program.
