Actor-producer-director Shahriar Nazim Joy has recently been accused in a case. This case was filed on charges of attempted murder by attacking BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s convoy.
On August 28, Shahriar Nazim Joy gave a video message on social media about the matter. Joy wrote, ‘I apologize unconditionally to the nation for not being able to play an active role in the student movement. There is no greater virtue than forgiveness. You will surely forgive me; All artists should make their positions clear. I discussed the case against me in detail.’
in video messages Joy also said, ‘A case has been registered in my name. Case of attempt to kill Begum Khaleda Zia. Where I have been accused. I have read the affidavit of the case, where it is written—On April 20, 2015 at 6 p.m. I was also present along with many others. I attacked Begum Khaleda Zia’s car, tried to kill her.’
Joy said in defense, ‘I have all the evidence, I was in Nepal for shooting on April 15 mentioned in the case. This is also mentioned in my passport. I went to Nepal by 11 am flight that day. At that time there was a big earthquake in Nepal. Many stars including me, Runa Khan were trapped in the earthquake. Then on April 26 we returned to the country. I have all those papers.’
Joy is very much mentally broken by being the accused in such a case against the reality. In his words, ‘I am very sorry. I never had the courage to touch anyone in my life. I did not quarrel with anyone. I am shocked by such an incident there. My family members are worried.’
In the video message, Joy can be heard saying, when a coordinator was asked about themselves (artists), he very clearly said, there are many artists among you who have done wrong. During the agitation, you tried to influence the movement of the students in a different way on behalf of the government (Awami League government). Many posts have been made to stop and suppress this movement. Tried to cooperate with the government, to be a beneficiary. Many of you have cried on Bangladesh television. While thousands of students have died on the streets, how many mothers have been left empty-handed. Many people did not understand that the government has done the trick. You will always be in the face of people’s cannons, you will be in the face of hatred.
Quoting the coordinator, Joy further said, you are artists, whom people love. Be it your organization, be it artist society, you all unite and express your sorrow to the nation, ask for forgiveness. You really have no choice but to apologize.
It was mainly because of such comments of the coordinator that Jay realized his mistake and apologized unconditionally to the nation. Also, the actor feels that those artists who were silent during the anti-discrimination student movement should also clarify their position.
