JSW Motors enters the Indian passenger vehicle market independently on December 4, 2026, unveiling its first production vehicle, the JSW Combat. Based on the Chery Jetour T2, the plug-in hybrid lifestyle SUV pairs a 1.5-litre turbo engine with an 18.4kWh battery to deliver a claimed 1,100 km range.
JSW Motors Marks Independent Entry With Combat SUV Debut
The Indian automotive landscape is welcoming another domestic player as JSW Group’s independent passenger vehicle brand prepares to step into the market. JSW Motors will lift the veil on the Combat SUV on December 4, establishing itself as a standalone automotive brand separate from existing ventures.
Company plans initially pointed toward a festival-season arrival around Diwali, but the debut was rescheduled to December. Production will take place at the company facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, where the 5-seater plug-in hybrid SUV will be assembled for local buyers.
JSW Motors Ltd is fully prepared to launch its first production SUV on December 4, marking the company’s official entry into the Indian car market. The vehicle serves as a badge-engineered version of the Jetour T2 sold abroad, resulting from a partnership between JSW and Chery Automobiles, the parent company of Jetour. Test mules of the SUV based on the Jetour T2 were spotted on Indian roads multiple times, following official patent filings earlier in the year. In February 2026, JSW Motors released a teaser showcasing a blurred front fascia that closely mirrored the proportions and structure of the Jetour T2.

Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain and 1,100 Km Range Specs
Underneath its rugged exterior, the Combat carries a sophisticated electrified drivetrain. The setup combines a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine with an 18.4kWh battery pack and two electric motors driving the front wheels.
Mated to a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, the mechanical components generate a maximum 360 horsepower and 610 Nm of torque. Testing under the NEDC cycle indicates an all-electric driving range of approximately 90 kilometres on battery power alone. When combining the fuel tank and fully charged battery, total combined range reaches 1,100 kilometres.
JSW Combat Features Boxy Exterior and Minimalist Cabin
Drawing inspiration from the international Jetour T2 developed by Chery Automobiles, the JSW Combat features a squared-off stance, flared wheel arches, and 20-inch alloy wheels. Spy sightings on Indian roads indicate subtle localized revisions to the bumpers, lighting clusters, and badging to differentiate the domestic model.
The exterior presents a traditional utility vehicle aesthetic highlighted by a square shape, squared-off fenders, and front and rear LED light clusters. The minimalist cabin incorporates a slab-shaped dashboard featuring a digital instrument cluster positioned behind the steering wheel alongside a large freestanding central touchscreen. While global markets offer the vehicle with petrol and plug-in hybrid options, including 1.5-turbo and 2.0-turbo engines with 4×4 capability on larger configurations, the Indian-spec model adopts the PHEV architecture with front-wheel drive. Spy photographs indicate that JSW Motors utilizes the pre-facelift iteration of the vehicle rather than the newly launched facelift version found in Chinese markets.
Inside, the minimalist cabin layout houses a 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, and a panoramic sunroof. Passenger protection and convenience provisions include a 540-degree camera system and ADAS safety technology.

Market Positioning Against Established SUVs
The lifestyle vehicle takes direct aim at premium off-roaders and traditional heavyweights in the Indian market.
The boxy proportions and rugged capability draw natural comparisons to models like the Mahindra Scorpio-N and Toyota Fortuner, while international counterparts include the Land Rover Defender.
