Shane Gillis Drops F-Bomb During Third Saturday Night Live Hosting Stint

Comedian Shane Gillis returned to host Saturday Night Live for his third time on October 10, 2026, delivering an uneven monologue and accidentally dropping an uncensored F-bomb during a Dr. Seuss sketch while musical guest Rosalía performed.

Shane Gillis Returns for a Third Hosting Stint on Studio 8H

Shane Gillis stepped back onto the stage at Studio 8H for his third hosting appearance on October 10, 2026. Spanish superstar Rosalía joined him as the musical guest, marking her second time performing on the late-night comedy series. The episode served as the third installment of Saturday Night Live’s 52nd season, airing live on NBC and streaming on Peacock.

Gillis’s return brings back a comedian whose history with the show remains uniquely complicated. Originally hired as a featured player for the 45th season in 2019, he was fired just days before his debut after past podcast remarks surfaced. However, showrunner Lorne Michaels later noted that the dismissal was forced by network executives against his wishes. Michaels has since brought Gillis back to host in February 2024, March 2025, and now October 2026.

Before his latest return to Studio 8H, Gillis built a massive independent following through his podcast, independent stand-up specials, and creating and starring in the Netflix series Tires, which secured a renewal for its fourth season. The comedian also secured an acting role in the upcoming biopic Madden directed by David O. Russell.

Monologue Jokes and the Green Eggs and Ham F-Bomb Incident

Gillis opened the night with a meandering stand-up routine that touched on his weight loss efforts, public gym culture in New York, and his receding hairline. The comedian quipped that his thinning hair has taken on an unfortunate shape, telling the audience that he had balded directly into an Adolf Hitler haircut. The set drew mixed reactions from the studio audience, echoing the uneven reception of his previous hosting monologues.

During the opening remarks, Gillis recalled visiting Joe Rogan’s private gym and sauna, where he mistakenly stripped down while believing he was entirely alone, only to discover Joe Rogan and Theo Von watching him through the glass. He joked that his friends nicknamed him a gas station egg due to his physique.

Later in the broadcast, Gillis starred in a Dr. Seuss-inspired sketch parodying Green Eggs and Ham. Losing his temper at Sam-I-Am, the host went wildly off-script and dropped an explicit profanity on live television.

Realizing his mistake, Gillis broke character as cast member Mikey Day quickly improvised a response, throwing Gillis out of the house for saying a bad word. During his final remarks at the end of the night, Gillis seemingly apologized for the slip-up.

Pre-Tape Sketches and Weekend Update Highlights

Outside of the live sketches, Gillis leaned into pre-recorded material where critics noted he often finds firmer footing. He appeared in an HVAC commercial parody for Upfront Heating & Air Conditioning, a bit that drew comparisons to his popular previous commercial spoofs. Other notable pre-tapes included a boardroom sketch set in a 1920 sneaker factory in Lowell, Massachusetts, and a domestic setup where a husband converts his daughter’s empty bedroom into an expanded living space.

The cold open tackled military affairs, featuring Colin Jost as Pete Hegseth welcoming the USS Abraham Lincoln home to San Diego after a lengthy deployment. Meanwhile, critics pointed out that the strongest comedic moments of the evening emerged at the Weekend Update desk, where the anchors delivered sharp topical jokes.
