Police found a 37-year-old French tourist dead aboard a sailboat anchored off Porto Santo on Tuesday morning. Authorities launched an investigation into the circumstances of the death, involving maritime police, firefighters, and the judiciary police.
Emergency Alert and Maritime Police Response
The alert originated at 8:36 a.m. on Tuesday after an acquaintance of the victim was unable to establish contact. Elements of the Porto Santo Local Command of the Maritime Police deployed immediately to the vessel, which lay anchored off the coast.
When officers reached the sailboat, they confirmed that the man had no vital signs. The authorities then towed the vessel to the Marina of Porto Santo, where a health delegate performed the formal verification of death.
Emergency Services and Jurisdiction on the Scene
Emergency response efforts brought out the Porto Santo Volunteer Firefighters, who dispatched three personnel and an ambulance to the marina. Alongside the firefighters, the Public Security Police and the Maritime Police maintained a presence during the initial response phase.
Initial reports varied slightly regarding the victim’s exact age, with local accounts estimating the man was around 40 years old, while official maritime authorities confirmed the tourist was 37.
