Thomas, 32, underwent a microdisectomy at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York in mid-November to address a disc problem that had been causing nagging hip pain for several months. The recovery process has been successful, allowing him to return to competitive play.
“After some follow up imaging and meeting with my Dr and team, I’m officially cleared for all golf activity!” Thomas wrote on his Instagram account. “It feels great to be swinging freely again and getting some reps in on the course. … Can’t wait to get out there with the guys!”
Thomas previously indicated his goal was to return to competition during the Florida swing of the PGA Tour, which begins with the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens from February 26 to March 1. A successful return during this stretch would position him to compete in the Masters, the first major championship of the season, scheduled for April 9-12 at Augusta National Golf Club.
Currently ranked 12th in the Official World Golf Rankings, Thomas enjoyed a strong 2025 season, securing a victory at the RBC Heritage and achieving eight top-10 finishes. His last competitive appearance was at the Ryder Cup, held at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York, from September 26-28, where the U.S. team was defeated by Europe 15-13. Thomas contributed a 2-2 record in his matches.
The golfer’s return will be closely watched by fans and fellow professionals alike, as he aims to regain his peak form and continue his successful career on the PGA Tour.
