Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has been suspended indefinitely by the NBA after an altercation with Jusuf Nurkić during Tuesday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns. Green was ejected in the third quarter of the Warriors’ 119-116 loss after striking Nurkić across the face.
Nurkić, however, still maintains respect for Green despite the incident, stating, “I have a lot of respect for him, obviously, even before this. I still have it. I don’t know what people go through. It’s not our problem, but he’s an NBA champion for me, Hall of Famer still.”
After the game, Green spoke to reporters and stated that it wasn’t his intention to hit Nurkić, but rather he thought Nurkić was holding his hip and he was just trying to sell a foul call. Green also said he apologized to Nurkić. This was the third time this season that Green has been ejected from a game.
Nurkić expressed concern for Green’s behavior, saying, “What’s going on with him? I don’t know. That brother needs help. I’m glad he didn’t try and choke me. But at the same time, it had nothing to do with basketball. I’m just out there trying to play basketball and they’re out there swinging.”
The NBA has announced that Green’s “repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts” factored into the decision to suspend him indefinitely. His suspension will begin immediately, and he must meet certain league and team conditions before he returns to play.
Nurkić hopes for Green to succeed and still be the player “we all know” and has no bad feelings or hate towards him.
It remains to be seen how Green will respond to the suspension and what impact it will have on the Golden State Warriors.
