PSI Party Unveils Elephant Logo, Symbolizing Strength and Cultural Values

The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) has officially adopted a new logo – a red-headed elephant – signaling a shift in its political identity and a renewed focus on core values. The unveiling took place on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the closing of the PSI Congress in Solo, with party leader Kaesang Pangarep explaining the symbolism to President Prabowo Subianto and party members.

A Symbol of Strength and Determination

According to party officials, the elephant was chosen to represent qualities the PSI aims to embody within its ranks. “The PSI Party logo has now officially turned into an elephant,” a senior party official stated. “Elephant is a symbol of strength, intelligence, determination and solidarity.” These attributes, the party believes, are crucial for navigating the challenges facing Indonesia and for fostering a cohesive and effective political force.

The shift from the party’s previous rose logo marks a deliberate effort to project an image of resilience and unwavering commitment. The new logo features a striking contrast – a red head atop a black body – further emphasizing the party’s bold and distinctive approach.

Rooted in Javanese Culture

The choice of an elephant is not merely symbolic; it is deeply rooted in Javanese culture. Kaesang Pangarep elaborated on this connection, explaining that elephants are traditionally viewed as emblems of “large, calm, and authoritative power.” He emphasized that the animal is not easily provoked or impulsive, but when it acts, its impact is significant.

“Elephants in Javanese culture are seen as a symbol of a large, calm, and authoritative power. He is not easily provoked, not rash, but when moving, his steps have a big impact,” he said.

Embracing the Philosophy of Alon Nanging Gajah Mantep

Kaesang Pangarep invoked the Javanese proverb Alon Nanging Gajah Mantep, which translates to “slowly but surely the elephant is firm.” This proverb encapsulates the party’s intended approach to political action – a deliberate, unwavering, and impactful strategy.

The party leader further highlighted the elephant’s social nature, noting that they are creatures who remain loyal to their herd in all circumstances. This value aligns with the Javanese philosophy of agawe Santoso, which emphasizes harmony and mutual support as the foundation for success.

“Elephants do run slowly, but solidly unwavering. Elephants are also known as creatures who every flock, do not leave each other in any situation,” Kaesang Pangarep explained. “This value is in line with the Javanese philosophy of the pillars of agawe Santoso. Harmony is what created a true.”

A Vision for a Humble Yet Powerful Political Force

The PSI aims to cultivate a political culture characterized by solidarity, mutual support, and cooperation. The party envisions itself as a “firm political force” that remains “humble, moving slowly but surely, not noisy but impactful.” This vision reflects a commitment to pragmatic, effective governance and a rejection of divisive rhetoric.

“Like a big elephant, but gentle, strong, but full of wisdom. We want PSI to be present as a firm political force, remains humble, moving slowly but surely, not noisy but impact,” Kaesang Pangarep concluded.
