A surging trend on TikTok has prompted singer Kali Uchis to announce teh official release of a previously unreleased track, “Muévelo Kali Uchis,” this Friday, December 19. The song, which has already been featured in over 160,000 videos on the platform, demonstrates the growing power of social media to dictate the music industry’s release schedule.
The Power of TikTok Trends
It’s increasingly common for artists to respond to fan-driven demand on platforms like tiktok. Several artists, including Paulo Londra and Cris Mj, have recently announced plans to release previously shelved material after it gained traction online. This phenomenon highlights a shift in the traditional music release model, where artists are now more responsive to organic, grassroots movements.
“Muévelo” – A song Born From the Fans
The track “Muévelo Kali Uchis” has experienced exponential growth in recent weeks despite not being officially available. Described as having a “moving rhythm and daring lyrics,” the song is a confident anthem encouraging listeners to dance freely and ignore negativity. A snippet of the lyrics reveals the song’s empowering message: “If a creep comes and starts talking, tell him ‘the music is loud, I can’t hear you’. Update ma’ update, that body is so appetizing.”
Uchis herself acknowledged the viral success of the demo, expressing gratitude to fans for their support. “You guys out of nowhere decided to make a song, a demo, go viral,” she stated in a recent video. “I record songs and write songs all the time…For me it’s like breathing and I don’t even know what to do with so much music.”
A Change of Heart and a Future Release
Uchis had decided against including “Muévelo” on a previous project in 2023. However, she now believes its viral success indicates a larger purpose. “At that time…I didn’t want the song to be part of that project, and now I’m feeling like that was for a bigger reason from what I understood at that time,” she explained.
As a direct response to the overwhelming fan enthusiasm,Uchis will officially release the track this Friday.
