Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harrismade history this Thursday by accepting the Democratic Party’s nomination for the White House. She became the first African American woman and the first person of South Asian descent to achieve this feat,
“On behalf of all those whose history can only be written in the greatest nation on earth, I accept your nomination to be President of the United States.” Harris said.
Her words were greeted with thunderous applause and shouts of joy from the thousands gathered at Chicago’s United Center stadium, where the Democratic National Convention was held this week, which reached its climax today with the speech in which Harris officially became the party’s presidential nominee.
In the speech in which he accepted the Democratic nomination for the White House, he highlighted his “unexpected” path and the parallels with the challenges faced by his immigrant mother, who was originally from India.
,The path that brought me here, to the United States, a few weeks ago, is undoubtedly unexpected. But I am no stranger to impossible journeys.“ said Harris, who is now officially a candidate for the November election.
“My mother Shyamala Harris had one of those herself. I miss her every day and especially now. I know she’s up there tonight looking down and smiling,” the current vice president said, referring to the death of his mother in 2009, who was a central figure in his life.
As she remembers it, her mother was 19 when she crossed “the world alone,” traveling from India to California.Unwavering dream of becoming a scientist who will cure breast cancer“, a field in which she made significant advances, becoming one of the most outstanding researchers in that field.
The Vice President recalled his mother’s teachings and how whenever he and his sister Maya complained about any injustice, their mother would tell them: “Do something about it”,

The Democratic Party primaries were won by the US President, Joe BidenWho had no significant opponent, but announced on July 21 that he was ending his campaign for the presidency after receiving pressure from his party for a disastrous performance in a televised debate against former Republican President Donald Trump.
Biden then called on the party to unite around Harris and today officially accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for the presidency.
