Kang Eun-bi Pregnancy: 20 Weeks & Hospitalized – High-Risk Update

by Grace Chen

Seoul, January 2, 2026 – Actress Kang Eun-bi, 39, is currently hospitalized as a high-risk mother, revealing a harrowing pregnancy complication that nearly led to termination at 20 weeks.

A Fight for Her First Son

Kang Eun-bi shared her ordeal on social media on January 2, describing her current situation: “On the last day of 2025, on the first day of 2026, and at this very moment, I am hospitalized as a high-risk mother.” The actress detailed a frightening diagnosis of premature rupture of membranes at 20 weeks and 2 days, followed by a finding of zero amniotic fluid just two days later.

“There was talk of aborting the pregnancy, but I could not give up easily,” she wrote. This pregnancy holds particular significance as it’s her first child after 17 years with her husband, Byun Jun-pil. She found solace in continued signs of life, stating, “From the baby’s heart sound, the normal findings confirmed by a detailed ultrasound, and even the fetal movements that can still be felt, all the signs seemed to say that he was ‘still holding on.'”

What is premature rupture of membranes (PROM)? PROM occurs when the amniotic sac breaks before 37 weeks of pregnancy. Common causes include intrauterine infection, oxidative stress-related DNA damage, and premature cell aging. It requires immediate medical attention due to risks like umbilical cord prolapse and premature labor.

Despite her determination, Kang Eun-bi expressed deep frustration and despair. She explained that she sought transfer to a more specialized hospital, but was met with the discouraging news that “there may not be a hospital that will accept me.”

The actress also revealed a sense of self-blame, writing, “I feel guilty because everything seems to be my fault. There are many times when my heart breaks because I feel like I am the mother who is causing this kind of pain to my child.” She concluded with a heartfelt plea for prayers for herself and her baby, whom she refers to as Sansam (Taemyeong).

Kang Eun-bi was previously hospitalized at a university hospital on December 29th. At that time, she shared a photo from her hospital bed, attributing her condition to the demands of juggling a new business venture, short-form video production, and live broadcasting, noting her visibly weakened state.

A Long-Awaited Pregnancy

Kang Eun-bi and Byun Jun-pil, born in 1986, married in April of last year after a 17-year courtship. The couple announced their successful natural conception in September, a moment celebrated by many given their age.
