‘Travel Guides’ Duo Karly and Bri Reveal Close Bonds and Debunk Romance Rumors
A tight-knit camaraderie defines the cast of the popular Nine Network travel series, Travel Guides, with newcomers Karly and Bri sharing insights into the friendships forged behind the scenes and dispelling speculation about off-screen relationships. As the pair approach the conclusion of their second season, they’ve become accustomed to one recurring question from fans.
The duo, who joined the show in 2024 following the departure of fan favorites Stack and Mel, have quickly integrated into the established group of travel enthusiasts. Speaking to 9Entertainment, Karly and Bri revealed that fellow “Guides” Kev, Dorian, and Teng immediately took them under their wing.
A Brotherly Bond
“We’re all roughly the same age and they’re like brothers to us,” Karly explained, emphasizing the platonic nature of their relationships. “There’s no intimate or romantic connections there,” she laughed, acknowledging the persistent inquiries from viewers. “Although we get the messages all the time asking us if there is, but no, the boys are beautiful. They showed us the ropes and we have so much love for them.”
Finding Support in Experienced Travelers
Having been relatively new to international travel when they began filming, Karly and Bri also found invaluable support from more seasoned Travel Guides participants, particularly the Fren family. “Which I wasn’t really expecting,” Karly admitted. She recounted how Victoria Fren was the first to reach out, sending a welcoming message upon their arrival.
Victoria, Mark, Cathy, and Jono Fren have become surrogate family to the younger pair. Karly revealed she was nearing 30 while Bri was 31 when they joined the show, putting them around the same age as Victoria. This age proximity fostered a quick connection, and they soon “gained a sister on the road.”
“Mum and Dad” Fren
The bond with the Fren family deepened to the point where Karly and Bri affectionately refer to Mark and Cathy as “mum and dad,” stating, “they’re like our mum and dad.” They confirmed the Fren family’s on-screen humor translates seamlessly to their off-screen interactions, making it easy for them to “slip right in.”
“We’ve kind of just joined their family and poor Jono’s got three sisters now,” Karly laughed. “It’s funny how it all works out.”
Life Beyond the Cameras
Despite the demands of filming, the Travel Guides cast actively maintains their friendships when not in front of the cameras. “During down time, we all try and get together and have dinner,” they shared. Karly cited an example of Bri and Victoria spending a day together at Disneyland in Orlando last year, while she herself spent an entire day by the pool with Teng.
The cast members also enjoy sharing personal tips and advice, from nicknames like “Big Kev and Baby Kev” to swapping style recommendations with Janetta and skincare routines with the male cast members. “They’re your family. They become your friends and your family,” they concluded with a smile.
