Princess Charlotte and Kate Middleton Delight in Christmas Duet
A heartwarming musical performance by the Princess of Wales and her daughter, Princess Charlotte, has captured the public’s attention this Christmas season. The mother-daughter duo collaborated on a piano piece by Scottish composer Erland Cooper, featured as part of the “Together at Christmas” carol service broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025.
For the past five years, the Princess of Wales has hosted the annual “Together at Christmas” celebration, with the inaugural event showcasing a surprise piano accompaniment to singer-songwriter Tom Walker. This year’s performance marked a particularly special occasion, with Princess Charlotte joining her mother at the instrument. The duet, a rendition of Cooper’s “Holm Sound,” was pre-recorded at Windsor Castle’s Inner Hall, with Kate playing the left-hand part and Charlotte taking on the right.
The performance was met with enthusiasm by those present during the recording. According to one attendee, “They performed the piece in front of a crew of people, and also the composer who wrote it, and it was lovely. We all clapped at the end and celebrated that really sincere, poignant moment.” Cooper himself expressed his delight, noting the serendipitous nature of the performance given that “Holm Sound” was originally written for his mother – a piece deeply rooted in the theme of motherhood. He described Charlotte’s contribution as “taking the melody, a bit like bird songs she’s sort of floating the melody and giving it a lilt.”
The “Together at Christmas” concert, held at Westminster Abbey on December 5th, wasn’t solely a musical event. Footage shown during the broadcast depicted the Prince of Wales and Kate watching their children contribute to a “Connection Tree” adorned with paper chains bearing their names. The Princess of Wales also narrated a letter emphasizing the importance of connection during the Christmas period, reflecting on how “deeply our lives are woven together.”
The carol service featured a diverse range of performances and readings. Chiwetel Ejiofor recited Clement Clarke Moore’s classic poem, “A Visit from St Nicholas,” while Kate Winslet offered a heartfelt reflection on the power of love. William delivered a reading from the Book of Luke, and musical performances included Katie Melua singing “White Christmas” and a set by the Cornish folk group Fisherman’s Friends.
Among those in attendance were members of the Middleton family, Zara and Mike Tindall, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and Prince Michael of Kent. Kate Winslet encouraged attendees to “bring joy” through simple acts of kindness, “as simple as offering a smile, a hug, and kind word.”
The Princess of Wales’s intention to include a musical element in the service underscored her commitment to highlighting the importance of human connection, a theme woven throughout the event. The duet with Princess Charlotte served as a touching and memorable expression of that sentiment, offering a glimpse into the warmth and joy within the royal family this Christmas.
