Porter, speaking with Nikki Laurenzo of Inside California Politics and Fox40 in Sacramento, emphasized her willingness to engage with challenging questions. “I think I’m known as someone who’s able to handle tough questions, who’s willing to answer questions,” she stated. She also highlighted her appreciation for her team, adding, “I need to do a better job expressing appreciation for the amazing work my team dose.”

Porter confirmed she had apologized to the staffer involved in the latter incident. When questioned by Laurenzo about the potential for additional videos to emerge, Porter repeatedly stated she was “taking obligation for the situation” but did not offer a definitive answer.
These incidents have reignited concerns about Porter’s temperament and a pattern of high staff turnover observed during her time in Congress. Recent polling data indicated Porter held a slight advantage in the competitive race to replace Newsom, who is term-limited and cannot seek reelection. However, the release of the videos prompted criticism from rivals, including former state Controller betty yee, who publicly called for Porter to withdraw from the race.
Yee argued that Porter’s demeanor could jeopardize Democratic efforts to pass Proposition 50,the November 4 ballot measure aimed at redrawing California’s congressional districts to favor the party. According to Yee, a former vice chair of the state Democratic party, Porter’s behavior could even pave the way for a Republican victory in the gubernatorial election and possibly lead to a loss of the U.S.House of Representatives.”I don’t relish picking a fight, and it’s not even a fight,” Yee said during a virtual press conference. “I’m doing what’s best for this party.”
