National Team Eyes WBC Breakthrough
Coach Ji-Hyeon Ryu’s squad enters the World Baseball Classic in March determined to restore national pride. Korea reached the semifinals in 2006 and finished second in 2009, but has been eliminated in the first round in the three subsequent tournaments (2013, 2017, and 2023). This year, the team aims to rewrite that narrative.

New Rules and Player Movement
The KBO League is implementing changes designed to enhance the game’s pace and competitiveness. The pitch clock has been shortened to 18 seconds with no runners on base and 23 seconds with runners on, building on the positive impact of the system on game length.
Most teams opted to add pitchers through the new system, with seven of the ten players signed hailing from Japan. These players are expected to bolster bullpens across the league. The KIA Tigers were the exception, selecting a utility infielder to strengthen their batting lineup.
