The Status of Kerosene Supply in Tamil Nadu and Other States Revealed in Lok Sabha

New Delhi: The Union Minister of State for Gas, Rameshwar Daly, has provided information about the status of kerosene supply in states, including Tamil Nadu, in response to a question raised by DMK MP Kanimozhi in the Lok Sabha.

During the session, Kanimozhi questioned the central government about the reduction of kerosene supply to Tamil Nadu over the past five years, as well as the steps taken by the state regarding this issue. In his response, Minister Rameshwar Daly stated that the distribution of kerosene has been restricted since 2010-11 due to factors such as pollution caused by its burning, increased use of cooking gas, and electricity, as well as some states not promoting kerosene supply in public distribution.

He also mentioned that 12 states and union territories in the country have declared themselves kerosene-free zones, and additional kerosene is provided to some states at non-subsidy prices for specific reasons such as natural calamities and religious events.

Regarding Tamil Nadu, the Minister provided details of the kerosene allocation under the public distribution system for the financial years 2018-19 to 2022-23. The allocation has seen a gradual decline, and the state has also requested an increase in supply.

Overall, the response highlighted the decline in kerosene supply and the various factors influencing it, as well as the considerations made for additional allocations based on specific needs. It also shed light on the state-wise details of kerosene allocation in recent years.
