Kevin Boakye Seizes DAZN Opportunity After Fight Cancellation
DAZN will broadcast a compelling boxing matchup this Saturday, featuring German prospect Kevin Boakye, who secured a last-minute fight in Mexico following a frustrating cancellation in Pakistan.
Just days ago, Hamburg’s Kevin Boakye (3-0) faced a significant setback when his scheduled bout at the IBC Fight for Glory Lahore event, in cooperation with the WBA, fell through. A late cancellation by his opponent left Boakye without a fight and stranded as he prepared to travel to Pakistan. However, in a testament to perseverance, a new opportunity quickly materialized, sending him across the Atlantic to Mexico.
Boakye’s ambition to compete internationally has been a driving force in his career, recently leading him to sign with US manager Ryan Rickey. This move, while disappointing for some German boxing fans, reflects a pragmatic approach to his development. “German professional boxing has been on a downward trend for years, and ambitious and serious promoters are rare,” highlighting the challenges facing the sport in his home country. He expressed his enthusiasm for his new team, stating, “It feels great to have found my new home here in Florida! I have a super organized, success-oriented and passionate team that works with me every day.”
The fight will take place at a Miura Boxing event held at the Sala Urbana in Naucalpan, Mexico. Miura Boxing is a prominent promotion in Mexico, known for its regular broadcasts on DAZN, providing a valuable platform for Boakye to showcase his skills. He will be facing Mario Abad Vera Lopez (5-0), an undefeated 19-year-old Mexican fighter. While Lopez’s unblemished record presents a challenge, analysts suggest Boakye’s extensive amateur experience gives him a significant advantage. The bout is scheduled for a catchweight of up to 81 kg.
Boakye is eager to make a strong impression on the DAZN platform. “I’m really excited – this will be my first and hopefully not my last appearance on DAZN, God willing,” he said. “I’m looking forward to putting on a great fight and a great show and making my sponsors more visible through the big media presence – without them, a lot of today wouldn’t have been possible!”
Beyond Boakye’s fight, the Miura Boxing card promises exciting action. The main event will feature a clash between Mexico’s number three super welterweight, Julio Luna Avila (24-1-2), and the internationally experienced Dante Jardon (36-11), a matchup expected to deliver a high-octane performance. Additionally, the return of Japanese flyweight Ayumu Hanada (12-2-1) against Miguel Texcucano (6-7-2) adds further intrigue to the event. Hanada is known for his aggressive style and spectacular fights, while Texcucano aims to pull off an upset on his home turf.
The event is scheduled to begin on Sunday night at 2 a.m. (CET) and will be broadcast live on DAZN, offering boxing fans a night of compelling action from Mexico.
