The Appellate Division has upheld the bail granted by the High Court to BNP Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon in the case filed in connection with the killing of two Chhatra Dal leaders in Narsingdi. As a result, there is no obstacle to Khokon’s release from prison, his lawyer said.
An 8-judge appellate bench led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan passed the order on Tuesday (April 30). Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon heard the petition in court.
Earlier, a High Court bench granted bail to Khairul Kabir Khokon in March. Later, the chamber court suspended his bail on the plea of the state party.
According to the statement of the case, since the announcement of the district committee of Narsingdi Chhatra Dal, there was a dispute between the former senior joint convener of the organization Sadekur Rahman and the senior vice-president of the Chhatra Dal, Mainuddin Bhuiya, the district Chhatra Dal president Siddiqur Rahman Nahid and member secretary Rifat. BNP Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon has been openly supporting Nahid and Rifat. Since the announcement of the committee, the deportees have been peacefully carrying out various programs and movements including protest marches, protest rallies, human chains, press conferences under the leadership of Sadek and Mainuddin.
In continuation of this, on May 25 last year, the deposed leaders of Chhatra Dal held a protest march with a pick-up van and a hundred motorcycles under the leadership of Sadek and Mainuddin. The protest march was going towards Chinishpur BNP office. As soon as the procession crossed Velanagar and entered the Chinishpur road, the terrorists who had arrived in advance on the orders of Khairul Kabir Khokan threw cocktails at the protest procession. Later they attacked them with sticks and sharp weapons and injured many activists. At that time, the terrorists surrounded Sadekur Rahman and shot him in the head from close range. Another person named Ashraful was shot in this incident. Later they were rescued and first admitted to the District Hospital and later to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Sadekur Rahman died at around 7:30 pm while undergoing treatment there. A day after this, another Chhatra Dal leader Ashraful died on Friday morning, May 26. Later, a case was filed in this incident.
