/ Meta, the operator of social media sites Facebook, Instagram and Threads, closed on Thursday the accounts of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other accounts for violating the privacy policy and using an approach that contradicts the rules of ethical conduct for social media users, according to the company.
It has become impossible for users of social media sites run by Meta to access Khamenei’s various accounts, as the company stated that these accounts violate its policies on privacy, incitement and violence.
Meta, a social media company, published a report announcing the removal of a network of other accounts affiliated with the Iranian regime from its platforms, most notably the Facebook account, attributing its decision to support for the Houthis in Yemen and the Palestinian Hamas movement.
Some accounts attributed to Ali Khamenei on Instagram and Twitter have been closed in the past. However, in the past two years, accounts attributed to the leader of the Islamic Republic have been active and have several million followers.
Although many officials in Iran are active on social media networks such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, the government has restricted access to these social networks and Instagram and Facebook have been filtered in Iran for several years.
