## South Korea‘s Kia Motors Sees Double EV Sales in US
South Korea’s Kia Motors Corp.’s electric vehicle sales in the United States doubled year-on-year in the January-July period, driven by strong demand for its EV9 model, according to data from the Korea Automobile and Mobility Association.
Kia’s total electric vehicle sales in the United States during the first seven months of this year amounted to 33,957 units, which represents a double increase from 16,941 units in the same period last year, according to a report by the South Korean Yonhap News Agency, citing the association’s statement.
From January to July, 11,486 EV9s were sold in the U.S., accounting for 34 percent of Kia’s total EV sales there.
Kia’s impressive EV sales performance stands out against the backdrop of a sluggish overall U.S. EV market. The total U.S. EV market grew just 0.9 percent year-on-year during the period, from 638,716 units to 644,752 units.
Thanks to Kia’s success, Hyundai Motor Group, which includes Hyundai Motor and Kia, maintains a double-digit market share in the U.S. electric vehicle market. The group’s market share reached 11.1% in the January-July period, the highest in its history, according to Yonhap.
The proportion of electric vehicles has also significantly increased within Kia’s all-green lineup, which includes electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid models.
