Kid Rock Rejects Grammys, Announces Conservative Alternative Halftime Show
The conservative musician Kid Rock has publicly distanced himself from the Grammy Awards, opting instead to headline Turning Point USA’s “All-American Halftime Show” as an alternative to the Super Bowl halftime concert featuring Bad Bunny.
Kid Rock, a five-time Grammy nominee, instructed organizers of the “All-American Halftime Show” to forgo mentioning his previous nominations in promotional materials, according to Andrew Kolvet, executive producer of “The Charlie Kirk Show.” The artist revealed his decision during an appearance on the program Monday, articulating a strong disapproval of the direction the Grammy Awards have taken.
“I saw some of the Grammys last night… at one point I just go, ‘Wow, this is like literally a gathering for people with the woke mind virus,’” Kid Rock stated. He further described the atmosphere as “terrible” and expressed sadness at the sight of certain attendees.
Instead of celebrating accolades from the Recording Academy, Kid Rock was recently honored with a “Waffle House Legend Award” in 2020, recognizing artists with the most songs played on the restaurant chain’s jukeboxes. “We stripped any reference of the Grammys,” Kolvet confirmed.
The musician’s criticism extended to pop star Billie Eilish, who used her Grammy platform to voice opposition to the Trump administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Kid Rock described Eilish as appearing “sad,” suggesting she “might want to look into Jesus, girl.” Eilish, while accepting the Grammy for Song of the Year, stated, “no one is illegal on stolen land” and added a direct rebuke of ICE, saying, “And f— ICE.”
Other performers at the Grammy Awards also used their speeches to address immigration issues, including SZA, Olivia Dean, Kehlani, and Shaboozey. Many attendees visibly protested with “ICE OUT” pins, while Bad Bunny, the upcoming Super Bowl halftime performer, declared, “We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens — we are humans, and we are Americans” while accepting the Grammy for Best Música Urbana Album. Bad Bunny previously expressed concerns about potential ICE detentions of Latino fans during U.S. tour dates. His Super Bowl performance has drawn criticism from some conservatives, including former President Donald Trump.
Kid Rock explained that Turning Point USA’s alternative show is intended to provide entertainment for a segment of the country he believes is currently underserved. “So many of us got tired of Hollywood telling us how things are gonna be, and hearing all their political this and that, and trying to shove their agenda and the trans thing and everything down our throats,” he said. He believes conservatives are now taking steps to create entertainment that reflects their values.
The “All-American Halftime Show” will feature performances by Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. “We’re just gonna go out there and play some great music for people that love this country,” Kid Rock affirmed.
The event will be streamed on YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), and Rumble, as well as broadcast on Sinclair Broadcast Group’s OTT channel CHARGE!, accessible through platforms like Samsung Plus, YouTube TV, Hulu, and Sling.
