Doosan Bears fans can anticipate a potent offensive upgrade as the club announced the appointment of Lee Jin-young as general hitting coach for both the first and second teams on Thursday. The appointment of Lee Jin-young, 45, marks a new chapter for the Doosan Bears. This is the first time the organization has created a dedicated general hitting coach position overseeing both the major and minor league squads, underscoring their commitment to comprehensive player development. Lee brings a wealth of experience, having recently served as hitting coach for the Samsung Lions and the national baseball team.
According to a team official, Lee Jin-young has a demonstrated track record of “maximizing the strengths of batters and complementing their weaknesses.” This expertise is expected to be invaluable in nurturing young talent within the Doosan system.
From Star Player to Respected Coach
Lee Jin-young’s baseball journey began as a first-round pick for the Ssangbangwool Raiders in 1999. Over a remarkable 20-year professional career, he amassed impressive statistics, including a .305 batting average, 169 home runs, 979 RBIs, and 979 runs in 2,160 games. He earned the moniker “the nation’s right fielder” through his consistent performance and representation of South Korea in numerous international competitions.
Following his retirement, Lee transitioned seamlessly into coaching, holding positions with the SK Wyverns, SSG Landers, and Samsung Lions, in addition to his role with the national team.
