After his cancer diagnosis, King Charles has taken a step back in recent weeks. He focused on his treatment. He seems to be doing better now.
King Charles III has received permission from doctors to perform public duties for the first time since his cancer diagnosis. Although the royal is still undergoing treatment, his medical team is “satisfied with the progress so far, so that the king can now resume a number of public duties.”
Accordingly, the 75-year-old monarch wants to visit a cancer clinic with his wife Queen Camilla next Tuesday and meet with doctors and patients there. The Japanese imperial couple are scheduled to visit at the end of June and will be received by Charles and Camilla at Buckingham Palace.
Progress in treatment so far is “very encouraging”
King Charles is “extremely encouraged to return to some public duties and very grateful to his medical team for their continued care and expertise,” a palace spokesman said. It is unclear how long the treatment will have to be continued, but the progress so far is “very encouraging” and the doctors are positive.
But the monarch will not return completely to normality. It is currently not clear whether King Charles III. will take part in larger events such as the Trooping the Color parade. The palace spokesman stated in his statement that there would initially be no full summer program for Charles. Accordingly, all of the royal’s public appearances will be announced at short notice and will only take place after consultation with the medical team.
Nevertheless, the announcement should bring relief to many Brits. Recently, the royal family has been confronted with numerous setbacks. Charles’ daughter-in-law, Princess Kate, also went public with a cancer diagnosis at the end of March. She has now started preventative chemotherapy, she said in an emotional video message. She was also diagnosed after an operation that was initially not suspected to be cancerous. However, it was a major operation in the abdominal cavity, about which nothing else is known.
