A sudden and violent wind vortex during stormy conditions in Bat Yam, Israel, on Friday resulted in the death of a 46-year-old kite surfer and serious injuries to another. The incident, described as a “freak tragedy” by those familiar with the sport, underscores the inherent risks associated with extreme water sports.
A local news source identified the deceased as Lior Dadon, a dedicated kitesurfer with over two decades of experience. According to emergency services, Dadon was lifted from the sea by exceptionally strong winds and propelled more than 150 meters (approximately 500 feet) inland, ultimately colliding with rocks. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second surfer sustained lighter injuries in the same event.
